Blessing and shaking the Lulav and Etrog are the Jewish way to thank God for the blessings of the earth and its bountiful harvest. It is a mitzvah to own a lulav and etrog and shake it each day of Sukkot (except for Shabbat) in all six directions around us to remind us that God’s presence encompasses our entire lives. This mitzvah is an integral part of the celebration of Sukkot, which begins this year on Friday night, September 29.
