Dear Congregation,
As the summer of 2024, with its humidity, slowly gives way to a more comfortable air mass, slightly fewer hours of daylight and a not-yet-visible suggestion in the trees that leaves are about to discolor and drop, there is no mistaking what time it is on the Jewish calendar.
But it needn’t be a negative experience. In fact, it’s a great time to re-establish your connection to the congregation, to update the members on the events of the last year to join us for services, book clubs, Havurah groups, Torah studies, and many of the other programs through out our Jewish community.
While for many of us, summer is a time for vacations and lazy days, we at Ahavas have been very busy.
- We have upgraded the entire building with LED lighting. This should save us significantly on our electric bills.
- Our security committee continues to evaluate and implement protocols to make us as secure as possible when we gather at Shul. (see Sandy Freed article)
- Our kiddush volunteers implemented some fun and creative themes for the month of July and hopefully will repeat this again this year.
- While Rabbi was on a sabbatical, our congregants stepped up to lead our Shabbat services. (A big Thank You to Rhonda Reider et all for all the coordination, leadership and Torah readings)
A big thank you to Robin Turetsky for taking the initiative to deal with the wheelchairs in the coat room. Instead of just throwing them out, Robin found someone who could fix them. The results of this turned into a great mitzvah. I received the following email from Robin;
Hi Ann.
Just wanted to let you know that the two wheelchairs have a new home. They were given to one of our Engineer’s at the JW, whose parents both had a stroke and were using a bad wheelchair between the two of them. After a few adjustments, they each have their own wheelchair. The Engineer said that this gift is such a blessing to his family, and he is very grateful.

Do you have an idea of a way to make a difference at Ahavas? Please reach out to me or any board member with an idea and let’s work together to make it happen.
